I am a big fan of Disney. The movies, the music, the theme parks. I love it all. But why?

The Movies

This is were most people start and probably end their exposure to the Disney ecosystem. And honestly that's great, because they are good movies. Obviously these are kids movies, I'm not trying to argue that they should be every adults favorite movies, they aren't even my favorite. But there is plenty in a Disney movie that an adult can enjoy. Even if you ignore the sentimental or emotional side of the movies most of them are funny and entertaining.

I do however think it is a mistake to ignore those sides of the movies. As a father I can easily pick out themes or messages I am grateful for Disney to exposing my kids. The best example of this is in Frozen 2, Elsa's search for what is missing in her life resulting in her being "You are they one you've been waiting for all of your life" is just amazing. My Daughter is only 4 and I know this message isn’t hitting her yet, but I want her to know that. And for a character as big as Elsa to struggle with the feeling of being enough just says that it's okay to feel these things and more importantly that despite that feeling you are enough. And that is just taking a dive into one movie. Everyone of them has at least one good message.

So yea the movies are pretty awesome and I haven't even mentioned the best part yet. The music.

The Music

Holy cow Disney has been making some bangers lately! Have you heard Surface Pressure or Lost in the Woods? They are just good songs and the artists singing and performing them are amazing. The songs really add to the movie experience by getting you closure to the emotions of the characters. But if I am being honest, I listen to them way more outside of the movies. Weather when driving my kids around or getting some work done. I love playing a soundtrack from one of the movies.

I also love that the music has inspired so many covers, both from mainstream bands and artists leaning into the Disney theme. On many of the sound tracts for Disney movies there are covers by bands like panic at the disco, Weezer and others. But I think the playlist I listen to the most (yea I know) is a Metal Disney Covers playlist.I was pretty into Metal music in High School and College and the mix of heavy music and Disney songs just works.

Before I end this section I just have to say 4*town 4 life.

The Theme parks

This is my favorite part. And that is because of how I much I love everything else about Disney. The parks and hotels even do such an amazing job of putting you in Disney. So if you are a fan of Disney content then you are going to love Disney parks! And I fit into that boat.

I enjoy just being in different lands in all the parks, experiencing the ambiance that Disney has created. I am shocked at how immersed I can feel while walking through Pandora, Toy Story Land, World Showcase or Main Street USA. The attention to detail they put into their design is both noticeable and also conspicuous. It's the subtle details that make it a truly immersive experience.

The people who make this possible are the "Imagineers" and they are incredibly talented. The do the research, create the story, then implement the design to tell that story to the guests. I am amazed with and grateful for the work they do for my enjoyment. That would truly be a dream job for me, but unfortunately I have absolutely no idea how to become qualified for doing that.

I think the best way to sum it up is to say that Disney has the ability to make you feel a certain way. And they use that ability to tell a better story, through song, movie, or experience.
